Aix Les Bains Training Camp
It has been three weeks already since I arrived to Aix Les Bains. It is an amazing training location in France, which is also a long term base camp for Australian Triathletes during European Summer. My Fiancé Brad (Kahlefeldt) has spent 10 summers in Aix Les Bains during his long, successful career in ITU racing. It's no wonder he knows some French (mainly how to order French speciality Gaufres (Waffle). :-)
I have have been to France and Spain several times for training or racing, but it was my first time in Aix! Simply put, I was amazed immediately when we arrived! AIS (Australian Institute of Sport) I know why they picked this place!
Hotel L'Azurea is 100m from a beautiful 50m outdoor swimming pool, where they have arranged to have it open for the team 4 times a week before the official openings hours. The hotel apartments are equipped with a kitchen, so all athletes can cook their own food, which helps us eat healthy during long training days.
Lake du Bourget is only 200m from our door and we use the lake for open water swims on Thursday, or just to cool off after a hot run :-) It is beautiful to run around the lake. There is also a track and some trails and a hippodrome to run on in Aix.
And riding? There are so many options where to ride! Around the lake it is about 55km with one climb. You can also climb to very high mountains such as Dent du Chat, Mont Revard, Grand Colombiere. One other very nice ride, which I recommend on and easy ride day, is to Annecy. It's such a beautiful place :)
More about Aix les Bains!
I am very happy that we could join the Australian group of Mossy. It is so much more fun to swim, ride and run with others! All are ITU athletes, so we don't do all the training together, but it is very helpful for us to have guys to train with!
I have a feeling we will be back here in years to come! See images from my stay in Aix below.
